He hits things! Birthplace & Background
Well…I grew up in Costa Rica. When I was about four, my dad showed me how to operate the cassette player at home, and, on a Sunday morning, while everybody slept, I listened to “Wish You Were Here” (yes, the whole thing) by Pink Floyd. The experience that I had I’ve been trying to recreate ever since.
Musical Influences
I honestly enjoy music from a wide range of genres. There are a few that I keep coming back to: Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Looney Tunes, John Bonham, The Police, Sting, Peter Gabriel, U2 (I’m a child of the 80…what did you expect?), good songs, Bob Marley, James Brown, Keith Jarrett, Avishai Cohen, Joan Manuel Serrat, Silvio Rodriguez, etc, etc… I could keep going all day. For a long time I was only a listener. I still enjoy just listening.
Musical Background
After taking lessons from every drum teacher in Costa Rica I felt it might be a good idea to come to the US to study music. When I arrived here I rented a house with two other drummers for five years. I probably learned more from that experience than from school. I eventually graduated with a degree in Jazz Drums from FIU. I had a great time.
Where I'm At Now
I’m the happiest when I play my drums. I also enjoy teaching. Recently I’ve been very excited with my home studio. I’m trying to learn how to capture the most beautiful sounds I can from drums and anything else. It’s endless…I’m in love with my studio.
What I'm Looking Forward To
I’d love to keep playing good music with my friends, hopefully lots of different songs every week. Maybe one day I will truly learn to express myself.
